Competitions
YPSCA Concerto Competition
For 67 years, YPSCA has held a Young People's Concerto Competition for advanced student musicians in grades 7-12. The winner of the top prize is invited to perform with the Minnesota Orchestra in a set of Young People’s Concerts. Cash prizes are awarded to all Finalists.

MSO Concerto Competition
The Mankato Symphony Orchestra is hosting its third concerto competition. There will be cash prizes totaling up to $5000 plus an opportunity to perform with the Mankato Symphony Orchestra.

Golden Valley Orchestra Young Artists Competition
The purpose of the GVO Young Artists Concert is to provide young instrumentalist and vocalists an opportunity to compete with their peers and perform live with an orchestra.

LaCrosse Symphony Rising Stars Competition
On January 18th, six students from the closed preliminaries will be selected to compete in the open finals that same day. The first and second prize winners will perform on the March 1st LSO concert.

Schubert Club Student Scholarship Competition
The Schubert Club’s Bruce P. Carlson Student Scholarship Competition, held each spring, awards a total of over $70,000 annually to young musicians to be used for further musical education.

Thursday Musical Young Artist Scholarship Competition
The Young Artist Scholarship Competition awards approximately $20,000 in scholarships each year. Scholarships are awarded in each age division and instrument category. First place awards for college are $1,750; high school, $1000, and middle school, $750. Second place and honorable mention awards are also granted.

Earl C. Benson Concerto Competition
The purposes of this competition are to identify talented wind and percussion musicians and to encourage high school students to pursue further musical study. The winner of the competition will receive a $1,000 cash prize and perform as the guest soloist with the Medalist Concert Band on Sunday, May 18, 2024, in Bloomington, MN.
