New Interim Managing Director

The MYS Board of Directors is saddened to announce that Amelia Hemmingsen has accepted a position with another organization and has left MYS as of July 1, 2022.

We want to thank Amelia for her contributions and tireless work effort with MYS over the past years as our Executive Director. Amelia not only elevated MYS as an organization within the Twin Cities musical community, but led the organization through challenges graciously with confidence and poise. We will miss her dearly and wish her the best on her next adventures.

We welcome Sue Fairchild to MYS as our part-time Interim Managing Director while the Board conducts a search for a new Executive Director. We are in good hands with Sue as she brings a wealth of corporate and non-profit managerial and operational wisdom to the position. We are extremely grateful to Sue, and the entire MYS staff, for keeping things running smoothly during this transition. We look forward to kicking off our 50th Anniversary Season of MYS with you very soon!

From Sue:

Greetings! I am thrilled to serve Minnesota Youth Symphonies as Interim Managing Director for the next month or two as you seek your next Executive Director.

As a former leader in various roles for thirty years in corporate America, I am currently studying my Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership with two concentrations in Strategy and Spirituality at St. Kates and believe I have capacity to accompany you as we prepare for another exciting MYS school year!

In addition to my professional experience, I am also a charter member and board chair for five years of the
Roseville Area Schools Orchestra Foundation (RASOF) where we truly appreciate our partnership with MYS. This foundation supports those who have an interest in pursuing private string lessons within the Roseville Schools but may not have the funds – a brain child of Pat Kelly. RASOF aligns with my passion for youth to have music in their lives in whatever way possible. My two daughters started their string journey at 6 years old and continue to play through college, earning scholarships and lifetime lessons of being part of something bigger than themselves as well as bringing the true gift of music to the world.

If you have any questions or suggestions for me or for MYS in the coming weeks, please let me know at director@mnyouthsymphonies.org. And thanks so much for your time, effort and support of this phenomenal organization! I look forward to collaborating and celebrating with you in the coming days!

Warmly,
Sue Fairchild
