Donations may be designated for the following programs:
Annual Fund
The Annual Fund provides the bread-and-butter for MYS, paying for everything from scores and stands to rehearsal space rental and concerts at Orchestra Hall. Want to be a key player in our orchestra program? Designate your donation for the Annual Fund.
Instrument Fund
In 2006 MYS set a long-term goal of raising $25,000 for new instruments, such as an E-flat clarinet, bass clarinet, A clarinet, English horn, gong, chimes, and other percussion equipment. Many pieces in the MYS repertoire require these “specialty” instruments that students usually don’t own. As of May 31, 2008 a total of $11,425 has been received for the Instrument Fund. Your donation is instrumental to orchestrating great concerts!
Carissa Hayen Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Carissa Hayen Memorial Scholarship Fund, named for an MYS French horn student who passed away in 1997, is a need-based financial assistance program that helps with tuition expenses for MYS students. Approximately twelve percent (49) of our students are scholarship recipients. A $600 donation pays for one student’s tuition for the academic year.
String Studio Program
Donate your outgrown half and three-quarter size violins and violas to the String Studio. The MYS String Studio provides violin and viola lessons, and the use of instruments, to third and fourth graders at the Hans Christian Andersen Schools in Minneapolis. Much easier and faster than trying to sell these instruments, your donations are tax-deductible and will be put to excellent use by children who need them. Contact Kristen Wesloh for more information.
Music and Melody Makers
The MYS Music & Melody Makers program provides a hands-on introduction to the instruments of the orchestra for children three to fourteen years old. Your donation covers the cost of music education booklets, pencils and snack each child receives as well as the costs of administering the program.
Children’s Concert Club
Nonprofit children’s organizations are eligible for half-price tickets ($3 per child) to MYS concerts. This is a wonderful opportunity to fund the cost of introducing children to classical music and creating a memorable experience in Orchestra Hall, one of the finest performance spaces in the United States.
Donations are 100% tax-deductible, and you will receive a receipt in the mail for your donation.
