A few of the professional orchestras in the US have pages geared towards the younger audience. They often include games (of varying levels of entertaining), composition tools, information about instruments, information about the orchestra, and composer information.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra has a fun site geared towards young music makers and their teachers. While it seems designed towards the grade- and middle-school age students, there’s great information on there for older students as well.
http://www.dsokids.com/

The New York Philharmonic has an excellent site for students and instructors with games, composition tools, instructions on making basic instruments, historical information on composers and compositions, and information on NY Philharmonic players. Highly informative and entertaining.
http://www.nyphilkids.org/

The San Francisco Symphony has an excellent site as well, with games, a music lab, and information about instruments.
http://www.sfskids.org/

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has games, information about instruments, and coloring pages.
http://www.bsokids.com/

The Tucson Symphony has a variety of information for younger students. This site is under construction and is less advanced than many of the others.

The League of American Orchestras has a very informative site geared towards a slightly older audience. There’s a wide variety of historical information, instrument information, a few games and some decent composition games.
http://www.playmusic.org/

The Nashville Symphony has good information on instruments and players, with great biographical videos of some of the performers.

Sphinx Kids has similar games to some of the other sites but has excellent historical information on minority composers, and also videos of Sphinx alumni performing.

Smart Music is a software tool for practicing nearly any instrument. It is interactive with feedback capability, meaning a student plays into a mic and the software analyzes the playing. While it’s not as comprehensive as a personal instructor, it can serve as an excellent practice assistant.
